In a bipartisan effort to support volunteer emergency workers, state lawmakers enacted a law last year which enables municipalities in the Commonwealth to offer credits on local taxes to those fire volunteers who meet specific criteria such as calls, training, or other forms of participation. That law went into effect this year and on October 26, Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors voted to apply its provisions to volunteer firefighters who live in, and pay earned income taxes to, Cranberry Township, starting with income earned in 2018. Volunteers will be eligible to reduce their EIT by as much as $250 with an annual tax credit.
